If you’ve seen the movie Wicked that came out last November in 2025, or even have seen the broadway musical you’ve probably been waiting for the moment Wicked: For Good would drop.
Wicked: For Good, was just as good, if not better, than the first movie. I think it was done very well and the music, friendship, drama and love story in this one just makes the movie amazing. This movie also gives you a much different perspective on everything you think you know about the story.
This movie took place awhile after the first movie, so some time has passed. Yet, there was still a relationship between Elphaba and Glinda even after everything that has happened between them. In the Land of Oz lots of new changes have happened, and that created the good vs evil. Elphaba was seen as the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda was Glinda the Good. Even though they faced those
hallenges and differences on how people viewed them they still found themselves being best friends, helping each other, and making each other better.
One of the strong points of the movie were the themes or lessons conveyed through the music. One of my favorite songs, “As Long as You’re Mine” shows the love between Elphaba and Fieyro. The whole scene along with the song showed Elpahaba and Fiyero confessing their love to one another. Even though part of me felt bad for Glinda, it was what I was waiting for. Despite the fact that Fiyero was supposed to be marrying Glinda who everyone in Oz adores, his love was for Elpahaba was stronger. After all this time he couldn’t stay away, was always watching out for her, and on her side of everything.
Another song, “For Good,” showed the friendship and change with Glinda and Elphaba. The focus was on how Glinda wasn’t just “Glinda the Good” putting on a performance, but instead it focused on how she became truly good and saw it in herself to be that. She was never really anything bad, but in the end she was able to go along with Elphaba’s plan. She put aside her own desires for everyone to see Elphaba as good, and that she’s not truly wicked. For the sake of Oz, Glinda had to make the hard choice to go along with it.
This movie truly shows a beautiful friendship. I love the way they could go from opposite sides to the same and in the end be able to find peace.
The ending of the movie is amazing yet so sad. Watching Elphaba and Fieyro walk away had me balling my eyes out, because at least they’re not gone and dead. However, Glinda will never know the two people she loves the most are still out there. When Glinda goes back after everyone thinks the witch is dead, they were all looking up to her and she was able to make Oz one again by allowing animals back, just as Elphaba would have wanted.
Both movies together are amazing. Getting to see the original story from this perspective where you really find out the truth about the characters such as the tin man and scarecrow is amazing.
