A recent construction has taken place along with many other developments unfolding in Inwood. A new, 31-acre park is taking shape right across from Musselman High School.
The project has been in planning since 2021, and the construction officially began in September.
The purchase of the land was announced in The Journal, along with many comments from the community about what to include in the park.
People in the area have spoken about the need for a recreational site, and the Berkeley County Council has talked of wanting to improve the community. This is what sparked the idea to establish a new park.
“Sometimes, the neighborhood loops get boring and I don’t want to drive all the way to my favorite local places, so this eventually will be perfect,” stated Mrs. Jarrett, a math teacher at MuHS.
Some have speculated that a park could potentially offer new opportunities, such as a place for the high school to host events or activities for students.
“I wonder if PE, Environmental Science, or Health and Photography classes could go across for explorations in their content,” stated Mrs. Jarrett.
The location of the park being built is close to where the old Inwood Park was. The original park was founded in the 1800s and was a popular addition to Inwood, where they would hold the Inwood Fair.
This new park presents an opportunity to bring the history of this area back to life. It will give the public a place to congregate and enjoy the outdoors. Many people have expressed their excitement for this new development, and the opportunities it will bring.
“It will be a lovely place to visit right after school, to enjoy a sunny day outside,” stated Ms. Craigo, an English teacher at MuHS.
