The 2025-2026 school year has seen many new faces join Musselman High School but the school is lucky enough to also have one teacher returning to his community : Coach Smith, a Specialized Inclusion teacher, and varsity defensive coordinator. When asked why he returned Smith stated, “The community and family aspect. When this is where you’re from, this is where your heart is. It means more being back here, I take pride in it.”
Coach Smith grew up with a deep connection to Musselman. “I grew up here. My dad started taking me to football games in 1996-1997. I have vivid memories of being seven, eight, nine, years old and going to all the games–never missing any home or road games. All the guys that played were like my heroes,” said Coach Smith. He graduated from Musselmen in 2008, and then continued his education, graduating from WVU and earning his undergrad in 2012. He coached at MuHS from 2013 – 2021 and then moved to Florida in 2022. Now he is back for good at MuHS. When asked what his long term goals are for Musselman he said, “ I want to bring this program (football) back to how I remember it. I want my kids to be proud to play here when they grow up, the same way I was.” Coach Smith is already back to building up his beloved community. If you meet him, his enthusiasm makes it obvious that he truly loves Musselman.
