This month at Musselman High School, Ms. Burton nominated Taylor Munson for artist of the month.
“She is taking AP Studio Art this year and is the president of the National Art Honor Society. Taylor is creative, meticulous, and skilled. She is easily one of the most talented students I have had in class. Taylor isn’t afraid to take chances and try new things in her artwork,” stated Ms. Burton.
Taylor has been an artist her whole life, but she mainly got into it in her 8th grade year. She usually works with physical medians like soft pastels and oil paint, but she is open to use all different types of mediums and likes to experiment.
“I know there’s a lot of fancy things like blending stumps, and different types of paint brushes you can use, but I like to use my hands a lot,” Stated Munson
The people she takes most inspiration from are her peers: “A lot of my peers inspire me and the people I work with, National Honors Society. Seeing their art makes me want to push myself, because I see how inspired they are, and I try to mirror that.”
Taylor Munson is also a part of National Honors Society, Which is a volunteer organization that uses artistic skills to help unify the community. They work on a lot of the murals around the school, create props for show choir, help paint sets for theater, and much more within the community.
When asked what type of advice she would give beginner artists, she said, “Just keep going even if you’re bad, you have to make something before you can make something and improve.”
