One year ago, Super Bowl LVIII was the most watched event with 123.7 million viewers according to CBS. That was a 7% increase from the year before according to an NPR TV critic. So, was the increase because of the NFL’s relentless marketing, Usher halftime show or the Taylor Swift effect?
With Super Bowl LIX approaching, this will be The Kansas City Chiefs’ third year in a row going and, if they win, their fifth championship in franchise history. The Philadelphia Eagles, however, seek only the second championship in franchise history. The two met at the Super Bowl in 2023 where the Chiefs barely passed the Eagles, 38-35.
However, football isn’t the only entertainment of the night. About 50% of America watches the Super Bowl because of the halftime show. Also, in recent years, celebrities pull in massive fanbases such as Taylor Swift’s. Especially for the Chiefs since she is dating Travis Kelce.
I took a poll at my school and the whole student body was 50-50 on why they watch the Super Bowl. And some watch just because they go to a party. So, it goes o show that the viewership comes from many different outlets.
Now we have seen this show a couple of times now. You know, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in the Super Bowl and one of them being the MVP. If the Chiefs win this time, it would be Mahomes fifth Super Bowl ring. If the Eagles win, it would be Jalen Hurts’ first win. The Chiefs barely play, they barely win any of the games they play in my opinion. So, as we approach this year’s Super Bowl, it will come down to which team and players want it and work for it more.
