GNX is the latest studio album released by Kendrick Lamar on November 22, 2024. The release of this album was a surprise to fans after no previous teasers or announcements were made before the release date. Kendrick truly did drop this album when the iron hot was due to his previous beef with other rapper Drake, to where such hits for Kendrick like “Not Like Us” and “Euphoria” coming from the beef hit an accumulated one billion streams. The result of that led to a bunch of hype for Kendrick’s next release.
GNX was a successful album especially for a surprise album, the album was streamed about forty-five billion times in total. What’s even more impressive is that it was streamed three hundred million times in its first week, quickly climbing to the top of the billboard for the year. The ratings for the album mainly stayed in the 5’s and 4’s followed with overwhelmingly positive reviews. The most popular songs from the album include “tv off”, “luther”, and “hey now” all featuring artists like SZA, Lefty Gunplay, and Dody6. For the internet and fans, SZA was the biggest feature, easily bringing the song “luther” up to 300 million streams. Because of the overwhelming success that Kendrick is seeing he is now performing at the Super Bowl coming this year, along with SZA performing with him. One that Kendrick loves doing is putting messages into his music, giving it meaning and to serve a higher purpose rather than just music to sing along with. The meaning of GNX is the importance of his birth and his parents, after Kendrick was born in 1987 his father drove him home in the Buick Regal, the parent model of the Buick GNX. Kendrick himself now owns his own GNX from the same year to show his growth and appreciation for his father.
GNX still sits atop the top streamed articles of 2024 followed by other albums such as Tyler, The Creator’s album CHROMKOPIA. The internet only wants to see more of Kendrick’s work and now he’s bigger than ever before, but knowing Kendrick that won’t change who he is. So personally as a fan I wanna see more from him, and I only hope to see even better albums from him. So long review cut short, GNX was a great final addition to 2024 that was filled with already great albums.
