The Bunker Hill High School-Musselman High School Alumni Association plays a vital role in recognizing the achievements of its alumni, as well as supporting the school and current students. One of the highlights of the association’s work is the presentation of two prestigious awards: the Outstanding Alumni Award (OAA) and the new Outstanding Alumni Educator Award (OEA). These awards help celebrate the accomplishments of Musselman graduates who have made a significant impact in their fields, communities, and beyond.
The association’s Bunker Hill High School Alumni Association found it’s start in 1923. When Musselman High School opened its doors in 1949, it became Bunker Hill High School-Musselman High School Alumni Association.
The Outstanding Alumni Award is given annually to graduates who have maintained a high standard of excellence throughout their lives. This award recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves through their work, personal accomplishments, or by positively impacting others’ lives. The goal is to celebrate individuals who exemplify the values of Musselman High School and serve as role models for current and future students.
“To be nominated for the Outstanding Alumni Award, a person can be nominated by a friend, family member, co-worker, or anyone who believes the nominee meets the criteria. The nomination process requires the submission of a 500-word essay explaining why the individual should be selected for the award,” Sherry Smith, President, explained.
A selection committee, made up of members of the association, then reviews the nominations and selects the winner based on the individual’s contributions to their community, leadership, and achievements.
Additionally, the association is introducing a new award this year to honor a graduate who is also an educator at Musselman High School. The Outstanding Alumni Educator Award is aimed at recognizing the hard work and dedication of teachers who inspire and shape current students’ lives.
“This award helps celebrate those who give back to the school, fostering the same ideals that they once learned at Musselman,” Smith stated.
“Like the Outstanding Alumni Award, nominations for the OEA can come from anyone who believes the nominee embodies the qualities of leadership and service, and who is committed to making a difference in the educational field,” Smith shared.
Guidelines and nomination forms are on the Association’s Facebook page and new website, musselmanalumni.org.
The purpose of both the Outstanding Alumni Award and the Outstanding Alumni Educator Award is to highlight individuals who serve as role models for current students.
“These awards recognize people who have contributed positively to their communities and careers, as well as to the lives of others,” stated Gary Collis, Alumni Association 2nd Vice President.
By celebrating these individuals, the Association hopes to encourage current students to follow them, striving for excellence in both their personal and professional lives.
The Musselman High School Alumni Association plays a crucial role in recognizing the achievements of its alumni and supporting current students. Through the Outstanding Alumni Award and the new Outstanding Alumni Educator Award, the association honors those who have made a difference in their communities and careers.
Looking forward, the association hopes to engage younger alumni, increase community support, and continue providing valuable scholarships to help the next generation of graduates achieve their dreams. The connection between past and present students at Musselman High School remains strong, and the future is bright for the Alumni Association’s efforts.
