As MuHS continues to expand in several different areas, so too does it staff to accommodate the growing student body. Ms. Kirsten Bond, a new face to Musslemen’s staff, has entered her first year of teaching at our school this 2024-2025 school year.
When asked why she decided to become an English teacher, Ms. Bond replied.
“My decision to become an English teacher was rooted in a lifelong passion for working with children. From a young age, I enjoyed various roles that allowed me to interact with kids. These experiences sparked my love for teaching and led me to pursue a career in Early Childhood Education.” She specialized with kids who have Autism and also pursued creative writing as a second major. After college, she worked in a behavioral center in Florida for three years where she worked with non-verbal kindergarteners with autism. Ms. Bond helped them develop communication skills, including using verbalization and communication devices.
Before joining MuHS, Ms. Bond worked at Mountain Ridge Middle School as an ELA teacher for 7th and 8th grade honors classes. “My time at MRMS allowed me to refine my teaching practices and develop strong relationships with my students, which laid the foundation for my current leadership role. I worked closely with students and families, creating an environment where academic growth was complemented by a focus on social and emotional development.” Eventually, she was presented with an opportunity to join MuHS. “My journey as an educator has always been driven by a desire to help students grow both academically and personally.”
She even decided to take on the class of leadership. “Taking on a leadership role was a natural progression for me, as I have always been deeply involved in supporting school spirit and student engagement. Throughout my education and professional career, and I worked with student council, and at MRMS, I had the chance to support student leaders by helping them grow in areas such as event planning and leadership skills. By stepping into a leadership position, I wanted to have a broader impact on the culture of the school, shaping a community that fosters growth and inclusivity for all students.”
Ms. Bond is also in charge of The EF tours to Paris and London this summer. “This past Labor Day, I was fortunate to win a free trip to Rome through Ef Tours, which was an amazing experience.” She’s also planning a Grecian Tour for the summer of 2026, and She hopes she can get that booked soon. “Traveling has been a transformative experience for me, and I want to share that opportunity with as many people as possible. It’s not just about seeing new places, but about learning, growing, and expanding your perspective. I hope to create opportunities for our community members to travel and explore the world, as it’s such a powerful way to learn and develop as individuals.”
Outside of school, Ms. Bond loves to read and spend time with her family, which is a big priority for her. She also enjoys shopping and exploring new places. “Traveling has opened my eyes to new cultures and ideas, and now I’m eager to continue my adventures and experiences more of what the world has to offer.”
