Starting off with this school year’s very first Artist of the month, we have Lillian Cox, a senior at Musselman High School who was nominated by one of our art teachers, Mrs. Shirley.
“Lillian is creative and motivated. I believe she cares about the assignments she works on because there is never a need to push her to finish. She is also very proud and passionate about the art she creates. This is why I chose Lillian Cox to be artist of the month,” stated Mrs. Shirley
When asked how long she has been drawing for, Lillian replied. “ I’ve been drawing since I could pick up a pencil. I think I started really getting into it in middle school, maybe 6th or 7th grade.”
Lillian usually uses graphite pencils but when she does any artwork with color, she will use alcohol markers, specifically the ohuhu brand. “They are really juicy, I like them and their colors are really nice.” Cox states.
She even sometimes does digital art and watercolor. When asked what her favorite art style is, she said, “I wouldn’t call it abstract but the stuff I like doing isn’t very accurate to human anatomy, so when I draw people, they might look a little abstract.”
Her favorite artist she looks up to is Jamie Green Art on instagram. “I absolutely adore her work. She mixes traditional media and digital media along with acrylics, watercolor, and color pencils. It’s so nice and it’s so pleasing to look at.”
Her recommendation for beginners in art is “It’s not going to look like your role models. The whole point is for you to work up your own style from different aspects from different artists and then make it your own.”
Her other hobbies consist of singing and bass guitar and she even used to be in a few bands.
