This February’s artist of the month is a sophomore here at Musselman High School, Jay Copenhaver. She was nominated by an art teacher here at MuHS, Mrs. Shirley
Mrs. Shirley picked her because “Jay has so much natural talent and it shows in all of Jay’s work. I hope she does something with it in the future.”
When asked if she would do art for a living, she replied with “I don’t think I am going to do it as a job, but maybe on the side.” She has been doing art for most of her life, mainly since kindergarten. Her art is a great thing that she hopefully keeps up in the future.
She usually likes to use regular, classic pencils and watercolor. Jay has been drawing mainly all her life, and she usually takes reference from nature, “I really try to go for nature type feel, because that is where I like to spend a lot of my time.”
Her other hobbies revolve around nature and she also does photography. She usually spreads out her time throughout a few weeks on each project so she can really get it perfect.
Jay’s words of advice are quite inspiring. “I’d say, just don’t compare your art to others, because art varies per person and the art style isn’t going to be the same, and make sure you have fun while doing it.”
