Musselman High School has always had a fairly solid girls’ basketball team. Recently, the team has appointed a new head coach to lead them for the foreseeable future: Mr. Potter, one of Musselman’s special education teachers as well as an alumni.
Seeing coach Potter’s work thus far it’s clear he has a passion for Musselmen.
“I am looking forward to continue watching the team grow together and compete at a high level,” says Coach Potter.
The girls basketball team is currently doing great, gaining win after win against teams such as Jefferson, Hedgesville, Buckhannon-Upsher, and Hurricane.
It’s impossible to underscore Coach Potter’s impact. The team has been following their program motto of, “Next play,” meaning to move on to make the next big play instead of hanging on to the past. Coach Potter is great at practicing this motto with the team.
When asked about the the team saying, Coach Potter says, “The number one long term goal moving forward is striving to make history by qualifying for the state basketball tournament for the first time in school history to make a run.”
Players like Marissa Wascher, Taylor Day, Nevaeh Thompson, Timia Scott, Sierra Scott, and Ciara Puller are pushing the team along with their coaches to help the team become a powerhouse in the region. This is not only ambitious, but more than plausible.
The team’s performance this year has been noticeable; it’s a huge group effort with great players, and great coaching. The school is excited to see where Coach Potter can lead this team in the future.
