NF started his music career when he was about 19 years old and found that rap was a way for him to escape. He released his first song on November 29, 2010, having recorded some of his first songs on a karaoke machine. He started writing and rapping songs at 12 years old.

Much of his music was influenced by the death of his mom who died from an overdose of opioids. His song “How Could You Leave Us” is dedicated to her.

Off of his new album, the song “Hope” is an emotional hip hop song that addresses themes of pain struggle and the search of hope. The song was released on February 16, 2023, and I believe that this song was great. It related to the personal struggle that many people go through, and for NF his past. His mother that passed away from drug use was apparently abusive to both NF and his siblings, so this song helps convey dealing with those emotions.
