For the past few years, Musselman High School’s boys wrestling team has had impressive performances.
Whether it be changes in coaching, standouts who graduated, or new members, the team has also had many changes coming into this year. This season is likely to be a fresh and exciting push into further competition. The team is ambitious, and victory is at the forefront of everyone’s mind.
“This season we want to make a push for a regional title. We want to put some guys on the podium at the state tournament and try to finish in the top ten in the state,” says assistant coach for the team, Mr Metz.
The team has grown in size and the expectations for the season has been set by the hard work the large team puts in. Of the many wrestlers, Kian and Hagan Windsor, Muneer Muneer, Abby DeBarry, Zavier Pollard, Brayden Henderson, Logan Smith, Landon Lioi, Kerrington Bennett, and Cicely Cullins are all members of who have had high expectations set for them. Many have worked in the offseason and the members returning to the team have high expectations.
When asked about what drives him, Brayden Henderson says, “I just think that I’m driven by improvement both mentally and physically.”
Assistant coach Metz shares the same sentiment stating, “Wrestling has been a big part of my life, so I have grown up with it and always loved it. My passion comes from the lessons that wrestling teaches. It really is training for the rest of your life. Some of the skills it teaches are unique and you will not find them in other high school sports.”
Great things are on the way for the schools wrestling team this season and with the hard work from both the wrestlers and coaches, those chances just rise.
