The Lady Applemen Volleyball team has seen a greatly successful season this past month. These ladies have put in time, effort, and dedication to the sport throughout the season. Today, we honor a senior spotlight to one player who has put in these contributions exceedingly: Ava Dunnigan. With her skills, dedication, and passion for the sport, Ava has become a true inspiration to her teammates
Ava has been playing volleyball for 10 years, and her love and admiration for the sport has done nothing but grow over time. Ava says her favorite thing about the sport is the friendships you make along the way and the people you will meet. Her position on the court is the libero, who wears a different jersey and defends the whole time.
Ava has built many relationships during her time playing volleyball. Kendall Watcher, a varsity member of the team, has played with Ava since they were both 10 on the 12U EPAN travel team. She tells us, “Ava always plays relentlessly and confidently on the court. You can always depend on her especially in serve receive, and she is a massive part of our success in the first contact of the play.” Alongside Kendall, Keleigh Chrisman, a fellow varsity player, also shares a strong bond with Dunnigan. She says Ava is an “extremely dedicated defense specialist” and that she is an “amazing player and an amazing teammate to have.”
Ava’s plans after high school are to play D1 beach volleyball for the College of Charleston, as well as study archaeology. When asked for her advice to underclassmen, she replied “To appreciate every second you can play, it really does go by unbelievably fast.” Ava’s love and dedication to the sport is reflected on the court when she plays.
The sport is very dear to her, she states, “To me, volleyball is an opportunity to compete for something that is important to me and my teammates as well as a way to make friendships that will last a lifetime.”
We at Musselman see Dunnigan achieving a bright future, successful in whatever she pursues.
